Press room 11 New Companies Join the European Software Association Hannover, 9 March 2006 Today at CeBIT, the European Software Association announced that 11 new members have joined the Association, firmly establishing a community among European Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) that is working together to provide effective representation at a European level. The following companies bring total membership to 32 covering 14 European countries:
The European Software Association, created in October 2005, is an industry body representing some of the best known companies in Europe whose business is to develop and market software. These businesses are usually known as ISVs (in other countries, referred to as Software Developers, Software Editors or similar phrase) and in general they are companies that share a business model based on replicable, packaged software. The Association’s main aim is to work with EU policy makers and other European stakeholders to foster an environment that supports innovation and competitiveness within the European software industry, and that allows other European business sectors to increase their efficiency and growth. The European Software Association also exists to provide a forum for development of common policies and best practice across Europe, and for networking between CEOs that will lead to better cooperation and partnerships between businesses. "As the ICT sector is a key driver for growth and jobs in Europe, the industry needs to leverage its economic impact on an EU political level,” said European Software Association Chairman Jeremy Roche, CEO of the Coda Group. “This is what the Association increasingly does for its members on a wide variety of issues, such as innovation and R&D, skills and employability and intellectual property rights.” “The fact that both large international and smaller local players have joined the Association demonstrates that the industry at large recognises the need for an organisation serving the interests of ISV businesses to educate EU policy makers, network and share information," underlined Jeremy Roche. The European Software Association continues to grow its membership. Companies seeking to join the Association should have a technology research and development unit in Europe. In addition, the company should have as its main activity the creation and publication of commercial software packages, marketed directly or indirectly under that company's own name or brand.About the European Software Association Created in October 2005, the European Software Association is the voice of the European Independent Software Vendor (ISV) community.
